3.         STATEMENT OF THE ACTIVE SUBSTANCE(S) AND OTHER INGREDIENT(S)

Each strip (51g) contains:

Active substances:

Thymol                                   5 g

Peppermint oil             2 g

4.         INDICATION(S)

The product is recommended for the treatment of the honey bees against the Varroa destructor.

5.         CONTRAINDICATIONS

The product is not recommended to use during the honey collection, because it can change the flavour of the honey.

6.         ADVERSE REACTIONS

After the treatment a mild restlessness can be observed in the bee colonies.

If you notice any serious effects or other effects not mentioned in this package leaflet, please inform your veterinary surgeon.

7.         TARGET SPECIES

Honey bees (Apis mellifera L.)

8.         DOSAGE FOR EACH SPECIES, ROUTE(S) AND METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION

For use in a bee-hive.

The package should be opened directly before use. Take out the impregnated strips from the packet, then place it perpendicularly on the top of the frames above the brood.
In a vertically modular bee hive the strips should be placed always on the top of the frames of (upper) brood box. The ventilation should be secured around the strips therefore they should not be covered directly. In case of a cover with folio, a spacer should be placed next to the strips between the frame and the folio, in order to keep away the folio from the strips.

The number of strips which should be placed in the bee-hive is at least one, but not more than three, and it is determined by the type of the bee-hive and the size of the colony according to the recommendation below. The strip(s) should be kept in the bee-hive for 45 days. During the treatment the number of times and durations when the hive is open should be kept at the minimum, in order to maintain the concentration of the active substance in the bee-hive.

NB bee-hive:

• in case of a colony which fulfils at least 4 bee spaces                                  1 strip
• in case of a colony which fulfils at least 8 bee spaces                                  2 strips
• in case of a colony which fulfils at least 12 or more bee spaces                   3 strips

Hunor bee-hive:

• in case of 1 brood chamber box                                                                                1 strip
• in case of 1 brood chamber box and 1 honey super box*
  (the strips are placed on the top of first super’s frames)                                           2 strips
• in case when there are 2 brood chamber box, without honey super box
  (the strips are placed on the top of the second super’s frames)                                 2 strips
• in case when there are 2 brood chamber box and 1 honey super box*
  (the strips are placed on the top of the second super’s frames)                                 3 strips

½ nB sized bee hive:

• in case of 1 brood chamber box                                                                               1 strip

*Honey super box, from the point of view of the administration of the product, means a super with a bigger amount of honey and bees. In case, when there are just a few bees and small amount of honey in the honey super box, then it can be viewed as non-existent.

The effectiveness of the product can differ in every colony according to the influences of the environmental factors (temperature, re-infestation). The product is recommended to use as a part of the integrated protection against the varroa mites, with the continuous inspection of the number of the fallen mites. If the level of mite infestation is increasing, then it is recommended to continue the treatment with another product containing different active substance.

9.         ADVICE ON CORRECT ADMINISTRATION

It is recommended to treat every colony in the apiary at the same time.

10.       WITHDRAWAL PERIOD

Honey: zero days.

11.       SPECIAL STORAGE PRECAUTIONS

Keep out of the sight and reach of children.

Do not store above 30 °C.

Do not refrigerate or freeze.

Store in the original package, and in a dry place.

Protect from direct sunlight.

Do not use this veterinary medicinal product after the expiry date which is stated on the carton.

The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.

12.       SPECIAL WARNING(S)

Special warnings for each target species:

None.

Special precautions to be taken by the person administering the veterinary medicinal product to animals:

The product should not get into the eyes. If the product got into contact with the skin, then it has to be washed by soap and water. The eyes should be washed with plenty of water. In case of a permanent irritation one has to seek medical advice. When the product is inhaled or gulped down then the nose, the mouth and the throat has to be rinse with water. If the reactions do not lessen, then one should seek medical advice. During the application of the product the protective gear, generally used by the apiarists should be worn. After the application the equipment which got into connection with the product has to be cleaned, and hand washed thoroughly. During the application it is forbidden to eat, to drink or to smoke.

Interaction with other medicinal products and other forms of interaction:

It is not recommended to use the Ecostop simultaneously with other products against the varroosis.

Overdose (symptoms, emergency procedures, antidotes):

In case if the bees were treated with a bigger dose than it was prescribed, then the adverse reaction can be restlessness, aggressiveness, the disposal of the living brood. It is recommended to remove one strip and to increase the ventilation. After the hive is well ventilated the treatment should be continued with a lower dose than before.

13.     SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS FOR THE DISPOSAL OF UNUSED PRODUCT OR WASTE MATERIALS, IF ANY

Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste.

Ask your veterinary surgeon how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures should help to protect the environment.
